The grain harvest starts soon
The winter barley harvest will soon begin in many places. In some early locations, it is likely to start in the next few days. Winter wheat is also ripening quickly in many places. For those who have not yet checked: Now is a good time to take a first look at the crops in order to estimate the optimum harvest date.
The weather so far – with sufficient sunshine and occasional drought stress – has led to a faster ripening process in some regions. It is particularly worth checking the moisture content of winter barley, as harvesting too early or too late can quickly cost quality and yield.
Tip:
After the harvest is a favourable time for Nmin sampling. It provides valuable information on nitrogen replenishment and helps to plan fertilisation for the coming season in a more targeted manner – especially if catch crops or winter oilseed rape will follow.
